HYCCT1410 ~grateful for you~

Hello Blogger friends!! Thanks for taking time to visit the Charmed Life Blog. It was a cold one overnight as the temps were around 37°. A frost is coming for sure this weekend and maybe even snow.

My hubby pulled out our last tomato plants today. We had tomatoes about a month longer than a lot of our friends who were growing them. Not sure why, but I am not complaining. I happily used them. There are about 8 on my window sill right now and about 40 cherry tomatoes. I may roast them to use in a sauce.

We still have flowers blooming but I guess after the frost they will be gone. Here is a photo I took yesterday of ones I cut from our gardens.
dahlia's, zinnia and Chinese lanterns
Now onto my card for today. This is another I made for the HYCCT challenges on Splitcoaststampers. This was challenge #10 with Joyce as our hostess. She wants us to create a card with something missing. My tree is missing the green leaves of summer. But, it is showing some of the magnificent colors of fall.

I chose the colors of fall for this card using-baked brown sugar, cajun craze, crushed curry and bermuda bay. They are from the SCS 500th color challenge.

I used the Taylored Expressions shade tree cutting plate and cut in brown sugar and cajun craze. I offset the cajun craze panel.

I created some background clouds and sponged with bermuda bay ink.

The pumpkin, leaves and sentiment are from the Verve set "bountiful harvest". I stamped with brown sugar ink on cajun craze and crushed curry cardstock and then fussy cut.

That's my card for today. Time to get back to some household chores I have been putting off. So until next time........God bless.

Card Concept Challenge #22

Hello Blogger Friends!!! Thanks for taking the time to visit the Charmed Life Blog. I can't believe it's been 2 weeks since our last Card Concept challenge. October is ready to bite the dust and we will be saying hello to November in a few days.

This time around on Card Concept we have a theme for you to try. We are titling it "thank-fall". Here is an inspiration photo to help in creating your card.

As part of the Wild Card Team I was able to select the style I wanted to create my card. I am calling this one a freestyle collage. I picked up on the fall elements to create my card. Since I didn't have a wheelbarrow image or die, I focused on the pumpkins, cornstalk, leaves and background.

For my background, I used the Stampin-Up "Hardwood" stamp. It gave my card the rustic look I was after. From there, I used dies to cut the cornstalk, pumpkins, acorns and leaves. To color my leaves I used some distress inks.

The "Thanksgiving" word is part of the stamp from Stampabilities. I die cut the "blessings" word with a die from Simon Says Stamp. That's my sample for this challenge.

Hope you can play along with our fun Card Concept challenge this time. The rules are fairly simple. You have  different card styles to choose from to help you create. The styles are defined here,  There are lots of samples from the rest of the DT, and you have the inspiration photo. All that's needed is your card!!

Until next time........God bless.

card details:
stamps: thanksgiving blessings (Stampabilities), Hardwood (Stampin-Up)

HYCCT1409 ~alien woo-hoo~

Hello Blogger friends!! thanks for taking the time to visit the Charmed Life Blog. Hope you all had a great weekend.

Today was such a beautiful fall day here in Pittsburgh. Sunny and warm was the order of the day. I am still getting tomatoes & peppers from our garden. Can you believe it??And, its almost the end of October. Maybe it will all come to end this weekend. But the weather man predicted that before and it didn't happen.

I finally got all my fall decorations out of storage this weekend. I really like how everything looks. Maybe I can take some photos and post them here.

Now onto my card for today. This is another I created for the Splitcoaststampers HYCCT challenges. More info here. For this HYCCT1409 challenge, "laughter is the best medicine".  Kathy is our hostess and she wants us to create a card with something funny on it, a pun, a joke, a funny picture.

I have been seeing these cute aliens on Pinterest created with the Stampin'-Up owl builder punch. So I thought I would give them a try for this challenge. I think they would bring a smile or laugh to someone.

I used the "Good Morning Sunshine" designer paper from Stampin-Up for my background panel. I thought it looked a little terrestrial. I also used the same designer paper in a different pattern for 2 of the aliens.

Added some googlie eyes and the sentiment from the Stampin-Up "just sayin" set to complete my card.

Well. my friends it's late and I have pre-school tomorrow so I have to dim the lights for another day. Until next time......God bless.

Card details:
Stamps: Just Sayin' ( Stampin-Up)

HYCCT1408 ~strong anchor~

Hello Blogger Friends! Thanks for taking the time to visit the Charmed Life Blog. Our Sunday started off with church and then we had an anniversary luncheon afterwards.

The church is celebrating 24 years. For a non-denominational Christian church that's a milestone. Churches of this type that aren't affiliated with a particular denomination sometimes have a short life.
But ours has not been one of the statistics. We have a well grounded Pastor who preaches directly from the Bible and interprets it soundly as well.

The luncheon was a Potluck so I made pulled pork and also macaroni & cheese. they were both big hits. We had quite a selection of delicious dishes to sample. Desserts were awesome as well.

Now onto my card for today. This is another for the HYCCT challenges on Splitcoaststampers. These challenges run through October 31 and we have until November 7 to get our cards posted. I am behind on the challenges. We don't have to do all of them but I hope to be able to finish.

This is my card for Bridget's HYCCT1408 challenge. She wants us to make a card inspired by someone who is a hero to you.

I made this masculine card for my husband who is my hero and my strong anchor. He is always so supporting of me and especially this year.
We had a tragedy hit our family this year and he was an incredible strong anchor for our family.

I used the Verve set "strong anchor". The layout is this week's sketch challenge #510. Allison is our hostess there and provided a great layout.

Well that's my card for today and it's time to dim the lights in Charmed Life Land for another day. So until next time.......God bless.

card details:
Stamps: strong anchor (Verve)
Paper: night of navy, real red, coastal cabana, ww, maritime dsp (Stampin-Up)

HYCCT1407 ~Cupcake Day~

Hello Blogger friends! Thanks for taking the time to visit the Charmed Life Blog. I mentioned on my last post that I was going to a cooking class. It was a fun time with some other friends that like to cook. In fact, it was my exercise team from my gym that went with me.

The class was using Pork loin and they marinated it in a delicious mixture of red wine, orange zest strips, rosemary, onion, red currant jelly, salt and pepper. We also had fontina risotto cakes with fresh chives.

Dessert was crepe cake with mascarpone crème & almond praline. The dessert was one of those ones that was over the top. I don't think  I would make this one. It was really delicious but so involved. The other 2 recipes I will definitely make.

If you would like a more detailed recipe, drop me an email. I have all the recipes.

Now onto my card for today. This one I made for the HYCCT1407 challenge. Misti was our hostess and she titled her challenge a "spoonful of sugar".  She wanted us to use a sugary treat image on our card.

I found the perfect designer paper in my stash so I decided to use a cupcake as my sugar treat. My card colors are pool party, soft suede and calypso coral.  The cupcake image and sentiment are from the Stampin-Up "cupcake party" set. I used the coordinatng cupcake punch as well. The splatters are from the Stampin-Up "gorgeous grunge" set.

The embossing is a folder from Darice. My card layout is from the SCS Wednesday sketch challenge #509.

Well, it's time to dim the lights in Charmed Life Land for another day. So until next time........God bless.

HYCCT1404 ~new day~

Hello Blogger Friends!! Thanks for taking the time to visit the Charmed Life Blog. I can't believe how quickly October is moving along. I haven't even put my fall decorations out yet. The inside ones I mean.

Between pre-school, the gym, cooking classes and other activities in October, my days have been full.  I am determined by Saturday that I will have the decorations up, laundry finished and house cleaned.
We are in the process of painting a bedroom so the stuff from that room is in other rooms. That makes things seem like they are in disarray, to me anyway.

Today, I am going to another cooking class at the Crate in Pittsburgh. Not sure if I would have chosen this on my own but some friends wanted me to attend with them. So I wanted to get my blog post finished before I leave.

So onto my card for today. This one I made for the HYCCT challenge #4. Sabrina was our hostess and she wants us to hold it together without your usual resources. No foam dots, or other tape, no wet glues or Glossy Accents, no glue gun...
You can use things like brads, eyelets, stitching (machine or hand), staples etc.

This was a bit of a challenge since I made a multi-layered card using the deconstructed sketch #172. But I managed with a brad and some staples.

My card background is designer paper from the "good morning sunshine" collection by Stampin-Up. I cut this panel with the MFT blueprints #15 die. The sun is also a MFT die as is the flag.

My sentiment is from the MFT clearly sentimental line "new beginnings". I held the rectangle panel together with a flower brad. The sun and flag are held together with staples. I colored them with a pumpkin blendabilities marker.

That's my card for today. Tiem to get ready to leave for my cooking class. I will let you know how it went tomorrow. Until next time........God bless.

card details:
Stamps: new beginnings (MFT) Paper: choc chip, summer sun, orange, ww, good morning sunshine dsp
Paper Size: A2 Ink: choc chip
Accessories: MFT Blueprints 15, flag stax banner & sun dies, staples, flower brad, pumpkin blendabilities (SU)

HYCCT1402 ~friendship~

Hello Blogger Friends! Thanks for taking the time to visit the Charmed Life Blog. My Sunday started over with church. The worship team did a tremendous job even with the lead singer and backups being out.

Our Pastor also had a great message today. The gist of it was that a crisis can bring defeat or empowerment. And, that our God wants to enter the equation of our lives.

This afternoon we went to Ethan's (youngest grandson) football game. His school team was in the semi-finals but they lost in overtime.
It was a cold day sitting and watching the game. I was covered with a blanket and a couple of jackets plus gloves. It was about 50° but we were not sitting in the sun and it was a bit windy. I was glad to get back in the car at games end to warm up.

We stopped for some pizza on the way home and when we arrived at home there was no electrical power. My hubby didn't have any house keys with him. We always come in through the garage but the automatic openers don't work when there is no electricity.

Then I remembered my keys were in my purse and that little problem was solved. The power came back on about 8:00 pm this evening. So that allowed me to get online and do this blog post.

Now onto my card for today. This one I made for the HYCCT1402 challenge. Rebecca is our hostess and she wants us to have our card reflect an image of something that floats.

I used a sailboat image, and my designer paper is reflecting objects you find in the sea that also float. It is from the Stampin-Up "maritime" collection.

I used the Verve stamp set "text objects". The sailboat is stamped in night of navy ink and I paper pieced the sails and the boat bottom and then fussy cut the image.

My card layout is the October SFYYT sketch.

That's my card for today. So until next time........God bless.

card details:
Stamps: Text Objects (Verve)
Paper: real red, coastal cabana, right of navy, maritime dsp (Stampin-Up)

HYCCT1405 ~double love~

Hello Blogger Friends! Thanks for taking the time to visit the Charmed Life Blog this Saturday. Our weather is taking a nose dive, and we are expecting a frost either tonight or Sunday night.

It's fall and late October so I knew it was coming eventually, but I am still not ready (lol)!! The gardens will be done for another year. And, we have lots of green tomatoes yet on the vine. Plus a lot of our flowers are still blooming.

Speaking of tomatoes, Yesterday I roasted a big batch of ripe ones with garlic and thyme and made an awesome spaghetti sauce. Roasting them brings out such a delicious flavor.

I also made stuffed banana peppers. We didn't grow any of these so I picked them up at the farmers market. They turned out great as well. The stuffing was just some hot Italian sausage, ground beef, onions, garlic and parmesan & asiago cheeses.

I packed them in my hubby's lunch for today so I hope he doesn't think they are too hot. I tried one last night and it had a bit of a kick to it but not overpowering. Today, I am roasting beets and making zucchini bread. I will give you the update on how that turned out in tomorrow's post.

Now, onto my card for today. This one I made for the Splitcoaststampers HYCCT challenge #5.  Diane is our hostess and she wants us to use both pink and purple on our card and some element, or elements, of your card to be in twos.

For the challenge colors I used melon mambo and rich razzleberry. And, for the "twos element, I used the Our Daily Bread Designs stamp "little girls" and stamped in melon mambo ink.
Used several dies to complete my card: the MFT dizzy doily die -cut in melon mambo cardstock.
Verve pennant trim die cut in rich razzleberry card stock.
Impression Obsession "I love you" die - cut from Echo Park designer paper.
The background panel is from the Stampin-Up "sweet taffy" collection.

My card layout is the October 2nd week Viva La Verve sketch.

Well, it's time to close this post and get my Saturday started. So until next time......god bless.

HYCCT1403 ~hope~

Hello Blogger Friends! Thanks for taking the time to visit the Charmed Life Blog. Fall weather is upon us here in Pittsburgh. We are having warm days and cool nights. Its perfect soup making weather.

So, I tried a recipe that was demonstrated at a cooking class that I took in September at the Crate in Pittsburgh. It was for cream of mushroom soup. I used crimini mushrooms, thyme, onions, chicken broth, half and half and sherry. The flavor was wonderful. It's a keeper recipe for me. I took some over to my daughter-in-law and she really liked it as well. My next soup will be a butternut squash apple soup.

Now onto my card for today. This is another that I made for the HYCCT challenges on Splitcoaststampers. For Challenge #3 we were to look through our paper stash to find all those teeny strips that you never use and put them to use making your background for your card.

I looked in my stash and decided to use strips from the "springtime vintage" designer paper from Stampin'- Up to make my background.

The stamp image is from the Stampin'-Up set "stippled blossoms". The flowers are stamped in rose red ink. I stamped off once to get a variant in the ink shade. Fussy cut the flowers and laid them over a Memory Box die cut flourish.

My sentiment is from the Stampin-Up set "blooming with kindness". to complete this card, I added some butterflies cut with a Martha Stewart butterfly punch.

Well, it's late and time to dim the lights in Charmed Life Land for another day. So until next time........God bless.

~Card Concept Challenge #21

Hello Blogger Friends! Thanks for taking the time to visit the Charmed Life Blog. It is time for another challenge over at the Card Concept Blog

This 2 week period we have an inspiration challenge and our theme is country/sunflowers. Here is a beautiful inspiration photo to help in creating your card.

My card style this time is clean and simple. I have a bit of a struggle with this style because I am used to layers and designer paper and I want to keep adding to my card. But, I think I did fairly well in keeping it on the cas side. At least for me anyway (lol).

When I looked at this photo, I immediately thought of creating a card with a mason jar for the vase. I used my Stampin-Up set "perfectly preserved" and the matching die. I cut the jar in vellum and used some blue distress ink on the back. the twine and bow help the jar help complete a country look.

The sunflower is a die from Cheery Lynn Designs.  The leaves are another die from Stampin-Up's "secret garden" collection. The inspiration photo has the flower vase on a checkered tablecloth and I used a stamp from Great Impressions for that look.

To finish off my card, I added some sequins cut with a MFT die. Hope you can play along with our fun challenge this time.

The rules are fairly simple. You have  different card styles to choose from to help you create. The styles are defined here,  there are lots of samples from the rest of the DT and you have the inspiration photo. All that's needed is your card!!

This card is also for The Splitcoaststampers HYCCT1412 challenge. Lori is our hostess and she wants us to make a card with warm colors and something fuzzy like twine.

Until next time.......God bless.

card details:
Stamps: perfectly preserved (Stampin-Up), plaid background (Great Impressions)
Ink: tumbled glass distress (Ranger), early espresso (Stampin-Up)
Paper: naturals ivory, old olive, summer sun (stampin-Up), vellum (Paper Company)
Accessories: sunflower (Cheery Lynn Designs), secret garden framelits and perfectly preserved (Stampin-Up), sequins die (MFT), twine (Recollections)

HYCCT01C Challenge

Hello Blogger Friends! Thanks for taking the time to visit the Charmed Life Blog. Hope your Sunday went well and you had an opportunity to kick back and relax some.

We went to watch our youngest grandson (Ethan) play football last night. He ended up at Children's Hospital with a concussion. He had a baseline done previously and my daughter-in-law will have to take him to the concussion center this week to find out what his limitations will be.

He had a headache today and his head hurt after talking on the phone. My hubby and I don't like these young boys playing football for this very reason. But, we are not the ones making decisions where our grandsons are concerned.

So if you could add Ethan to your prayer list, it would be greatly appreciated.

Now, onto my card for today. This one I made for the first day Hope You Can Cling to Challenge 01C on Splitcoaststampers. Dini was our hostess and she wanted us to use something on our card that we could hold onto - a handle.

For my card I used the vintage big wheel image from Great Impressions Stamps. The sentiments are also from Great Impressions.

The card layout was last weeks Deconstructed sketch #171.

The background paper is from Stampin-Up's "sweet taffy" collection. The bottom sentiment is stamped on turquoise card stock and cut with the MFT bracket die.

That's my card for today. It's time to dim the lights in Charmed Life Land for another day. So until next time........God bless.

card details:
Stamps: Vintage Big Wheel, Never Give Up, Journey (Great Impressions Stamps)
Paper: daffodil delight, tempting turquoise, ww, sweet taffy dsp (Stampin' Up)
Paper Size: A2 Ink: tempting turquoise, rich razzleberry (Stampin-Up)

Hope You Can Cling To 2014

Hello Blogger Friends!! Thanks for taking the time to visit the Charmed Life Blog. My hubby was busy the past few days with taking wallpaper down from one of our spare bedrooms.

Actually, it's the room that our sweet granddaughter Phoenix Daisy sleeps in when she comes to visit. We are going to paint this room, replace the area rug and move the computer into another room.

And, since we were in a facelift kind of mode, my hubby agreed that I could take our den and turn it into my crafting space. Whoo-hoo!! I will have my own space instead of working on the kitchen table.

No more having to clean the area up every night and then pulling out the stuff again the next day. We have to do some rearranging and moving out what's in there now. But, I am so excited to have my own space. Pictures will come when I get in there. Hopefully, I won't delay on this.

Now onto my card for today. I am taking part in the Hope You Can Cling Challenge 2014 on Splitcoaststampers. They partner with the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center for the fifth annual month long card drive to benefit those affected by breast cancer.
You have the option to send your cards to the center when the challenges are finished. I take that option and feel very good about sending them each year.
This is my 4th year being involved in the challenges. It stretches me as a card maker with the daily challenges that are posted.
So for the next 30 days I will be posting the cards that I have made for the HYCCT challenges.

This card I am showing today was made for one of the first 3 challenges. Lori was our hostess and she had a "shine on" challenge.  The challenge was to create a card that uses light to convey encouragement and hope ... a lamp, a candle, a lightbulb or sunshine!

I thought of the MFT sun ray die and decided to go that route. I cut the sun ray with summer sun cardstock. Layered it over a piece of BoBunny designer paper that I sponged lightly with tangerine tango ink.

Cut a circle with a Spellbinders die and stamped my sentiment. The sentiment is from the Stampin-Up set "ray of sunshine".

That's my card for today. So until next time.........God bless.

Card Details:
Stamps: Ray Of Sunshine (Stampin-Up)
Paper: Naturals ivory, summer sun (Stampin-Up), Anna Sophia worn dots dp (Bo Bunny)
Paper Size: A2
Ink: tangerine tango, early espresso
Accessories: MFT sunray die, Spellbinders small circle die

Fairytale Love

Hello Blogger Friends! Thanks for taking the time to visit the Charmed Life Blog. Today was my day at Pre-school. I go every Tuesday and for the first couple of months, I also go to help out on Thursdays.

I really like the class we have this year. The kids are so cooperative and love doing all the activities and lessons. We have 10 in this class. Today we had a leaf project that involved glitter. It was a bit messy but they love using glitter especially the boys.  For those type projects the lead teacher likes me to work with the kids one on one.

I took some Spellbinder die cut maple leaves and some other embellishments in addition to the glitter. Since the embellishments were small I took my "pick me up stick" for the kids to use. It helped them pick up the small ladybug buttons and place them on a glue dot and then on the leaf. It worked their fine motor skills. They were intrigued at how it worked.

Now onto my card for today. I used the blueprints 15 from MFT to create my card and the Stampin-Up colors of so saffron, smoky slate and strawberry slush. I also used the May 2014 blueprint 15 sketch.

The background designer paper is from Stampin-Up’s watercolor wonder collection. My sentiment is from the MFT set “clearly sentimental about romance”.

The flower die is from Cheery Lynn Designs cut in so saffron. The small panel under the strawberry slush is cut from the SU “silver fancy foil vellum” collection. I cut some hearts from this designer paper to complete my card.

Well, its late and time to dim the lights in Charmed Life Land for another day. So until next time.........God bless.

~eclectic dream~

Hello Blogger Friends! Thanks for taking the time to visit the Charmed Life Blog. Today I went with my daughter-in-law Joellen to a lunch & learn class at our favorite cooking school here in Pittsburgh. It's the Crate Cook.

The class today was a demonstration one and they prepared in front of us: sirloin steak with a pomegranate glaze - lemon herb mashed parsnips and a Pear & Frangipane Crostata with Raspberry Glaze. Such a delicious lunch, and I have all the recipes to create this at my home.

I have never had parsnips before and the way they prepared them was quite tasty. They used lemon-scallions-thyme and chives.
It was a wonderful afternoon spent with Joellen. This was her birthday gift and she enjoyed herself.  She is an accomplished cook and these recipes will be added to her repertoire.

Now onto my card for today. This one I made for the color challenge #498 on Splitcoaststampers. Barbara was our hostess and she chose elegant eggplant, crushed curry and garden green as her color trio. Her optional twist was to use leaves on your card.

I just bought the Stampin-Up "kinda eclectic" stamp set and decided to use it on my card to create an eclectic collage. My image is stamped in crushed curry, old olive and elegant eggplant inks. I had no garden green ink so I color subbed this week.

The flowers are from the Stampin-Up set "language of friendship". Stamped in elegant eggplant ink and then I fussy cut and popped them up for dimension and added interest.

The "dream definition" is from a new to me stamp set from Technique Junkies "definitions" and stamped in elegant eggplant ink. The dream word cut from elegant eggplant cardstock is from a Memory Box die.

I found and used some crushed curry ribbon in my stash. And, to complete my card I die cut a butterfly using a die from Elizabeth Crafts.

That's my card for today. It's late and time to dim the lights in Charmed Life Land for another day. So until next time.......God Bless!!
